I've started work with Izlanda Zethemba. It's challenging, exhausting, sometimes overwhelming but all worth it for some wonderful moments.
I went shopping to a huge warehouse today with "Mama Peggy," She is 70 + but buys the food to give to families in need. It's quite an experience driving in a township!
Have also helped out with a couple of support groups. Did one with the children yesterday. There were 35 children there, all affected in some way by HIV. Either themselves or a family member. It was hard to realise that most of them have been victims of abuse as well. The project provides food for them at the groups & this is probably the only meal they may have on the day. The staff are amazing & I am humbled by the love & compassion they show to the children. The children were lively. When they realised I was from the UK one of them asked me "Ruth, do you know Wayne Rooney"!? Not the sort of question to ask an Arsenal supporter! I had to disappoint him & say no! The beautiful game is universal!
