It's been a busy few days. Sunday we had the Christmas Play at Khanyisa Church. Great fun. Christmas African style with lots of singing & dancing inevitably & a very multi racial cast. King Herod was rather alarming with a leopard skin cowboy hat & red cloak!
Yesterday I went to Robben Island with some friends from the UK. The ferry crossing out was smooth & we saw a whale breaking the waves. The tour of the prison complex takes just less than 2 hours. It was a sobering reminder of the horror of apartheid. The struggle to end it was not due to the work of one man but of many. Sadly many sacrificing their lives. An ex prisoner takes you round the cells & prison yard. He did it with grace, humility & humour. He also had an amazing spirit of forgiveness. Obvioulsy Robben Island is known because of Nelson Mandela but this is not overtly promoted as every prisoner endured the same hardship.
The ferry ride back to the mainland was not quite so smooth! Amazing views of city & Table Mountain.
I hope you are all enjoying the run up to Christmas & that it's not too hectic.
